Kendall Square Research Park

Kendall Square Research Park, Cambridge, MA

Kendall Square Research Park

DGT Survey's Gunther Engineering division has served as the surveyor of record for redevelopment of this environmentally-challenged 10-acre brownfields site from the project’s genesis in the 1980s.

Starting with the original owner, DGT has worked with a succession of developers and construction managers, providing land and construction surveying services for property line and subdivisions, conveyancing and financing, easements, environmental permitting and compliance, air-rights creation, and construction control and layout.

Today the former brownfields site has been transformed into a mixed-use multi-building urban center featuring life science research facilities, office, residential, and retail space, underground parking, and landscaped public areas.

Fenway Park, Boston, MA

DGT Survey’s Gunther Engineering division has supported annual off-season improvements at historic Fenway Park since 1983. Built in 1912, the home of the Boston Red Sox and its ancillary buildings have in recent years undergone extensive improvements to the seating bowl, concession areas, and visitor amenities.

Survey support services include establishing a ballpark survey control network based on infield diamond geometry and best-fit to existing structural elements; as-built surveys of structure steel; layout of new structures; positioning of light towers; verification of foul pole alignments; foundation pile as-builts; settlement monitoring, and 3D laser scanning as-builts.

In addition to challenges typical of working with a near-century old facility, survey work is performed under tight schedules during limited off-season access. We can only hope that post-season success delays access until late-October.

Battery Wharf Hotel and Residences, Boston, MA

DGT Survey’s Gunther Engineering division served as project surveyor for this signature development on Boston’s historic North End waterfront. The 4-building complex includes 104 luxury condominiums, a 150-room luxury hotel, a marina, public areas, restaurant and retail space, and below-grade parking for 376 cars.

Pre-construction design and permitting survey work included extensive legal and topographical surveys to delineate boundary lines, jurisdictional and historic harbor lines for Chapter 91 Waterways licensing, various flood zones surveys, bathymetric soundings, and locations of subsurface structures.

DGT Survey also provided full civil engineering services for the project, including utility and site design, Specific Repair Plans for sidewalks, and Street Discontinuance and Easement Plans for the Public Improvements Commission. During construction, we performed all required building and seawall control, layout, and verification surveys.

Logan 2000 Airport Modification Program

The $1.5 billion “Logan 2000” airport modernization program dramatically reshaped New England’s largest air hub for the 21st century and greatly increased its capacity.

DGT Survey Group provided survey support to virtually every major landside component of the project, including: Realignment of terminal area roadways (including construction of an upper-level roadway system) to accommodate several new or re-configured terminal buildings and provide access to the Ted Williams Tunnel; Improvements to utility systems and utility tunnels; and construction of the Logan Hilton Hotel, elevated walkways, and Terminal A.

Surveying services included construction control, subsurface utility engineering (SUE), topographic mapping, as-builts, geodetic control surveys; and deformation monitoring.

Northwest Science Building, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA

DGT Survey Group provided a full range of construction support surveys for this complex, state-of-the-art, multi-disciplinary science research center. Both the building and the project site presented challenging survey conditions.

The building consists of above ground and underground spaces. The upper four stories house research laboratories and lecture halls. Research and museum space is located underground, along with a chilled water plant and electrical substation. The project site itself is located within a highly congested urban campus and surrounded by active research, teaching and student life activities.

Specific survey tasks included establishing survey control for sitework and buildings;  layout of precise building floor control; layout and as-built surveys of foundation piles; and plumbing of steel frame.
